Simon Hart MP is supporting the Royal British Legion's 'Count Them In' campaign for new questions to be added to the next census so that Armed Forces families are properly represented.
"We are in a crazy situation where the last census told us more about the Jedi population of Britain than about our forces personnel," said Mr Hart.
A spokesman for the Royal British Legion added: "Almost 10 per cent of people in the UK are members of the Armed Forces community, but there's very limited information about where they are or what their needs might be.
"Including this information in the next census would ensure that our severing personnel, veterans and their families are better supported."
The Royal British Legion has now launched a campaign to get new questions that would be relevant to Forces families included in the 2021 census.
Mr Hart added: "By doing this it would improve understanding of this unique community and ensure that charities and service providers fully meet the needs of our serving personnel, veterans and their families."
