For me I want 2015 to be year of hope, optimising and success. West Wales is a fantastic place to live, work and visit and I want to champion these special qualities. Without being blind to areas of hardship, I am also proud that in our area unemployment has fallen, crime has fallen, tax has come down for low earners and that we have lots of new and exciting new businesses starting up. I am delighted that S4C has chosen this town for its new headquarters and that we are all part of Britain's great recovery. Glangwili Hospital gives us a wonderful service as do all of our public services here in town, even in the face of the tough economic conditions that we have no option but to address.
I have been incredibly lucky to visit some of these businesses during the year, as I have to meet some of our charities and schools. What always strikes me is the number of volunteers and staff who quietly go about their work, for the good of our community, without either asking or expecting recognition.
One the best examples of this goodwill was the success of the Myrddin Special Unit's bid for a new classroom. With the help of vigorous local support, they saw off national competition from much bigger schools to add to their facilities. They are a an example of what makes this county so special and why we should start the year with a spring in our step.
