MP Simon Hart joined staff, shoppers and volunteers at Carmarthen's Tesco Extra for this year's Neighbourhood Food Collection.
Tesco has held a week-long collection in stores across the UK. It is the fifth year that the supermarket giant has teamed up with foodbank charity The Trussell Trust and food redistribution charity FareShare to collect food parcels for individuals and families in need.
Mr Hart said: "Tesco and the Trussell Trust do a fantastic job every year and once again, Carmarthen shoppers have been hugely generous."
As well as organising two week-long, nationwide collections a year, Tesco tops up shoppers' donations by 30% and donates surplus food from its online and fresh distribution centres.
The last collection in July gathered 5.1 million meals. Since the scheme started in December 2012, Neighbourhood Food Collection has donated 15.3 million meals to help FareShare and the Trussell Trust support people in need across the UK.
