CROSSRAIL WILL HELP BRING PARTS OF LONDON CLOSER TO WEST WALES, SAYS MP

Simon Hart MP is pictured in a giant tunnel that is part of the Crossrail project in London – a new railway that links east and west London and which will bring parts of the capital closer to west Wales

Crossrail is the biggest construction project in Europe and is due to start opening at the end of 2017; so far it is 75 % complete and is on time and within budget.

"I know that a tunnel under London may seem a bit irrelevant to west Wales but one of the stations on the new Elizabeth Line will be at Paddington – our rail gateway to the capital," said Mr Hart who is pictured with fellow MP Karl McCartney.

"Crossrail will cut journey times from Paddington to Canary Wharf from 34 minutes to 17 minutes and the journey to Liverpool Street Station will go from 23 minutes to 10 minutes.

"Not only will this project improve the lives of city commuters but it will help encourage investment in Wales by providing faster links."
